My new job is pretty nifty. I'm assistant editor of a local weekly. So far, it's been a little weird because the editor is new as well, so we're both kinda figuring things out. I have some plans and I think it'll turn out okay.
My parents left for a trip this weekend and so Bea and I had to feed Thelonius, who was hiding somewhere upstairs or in the attic. I spent a lot of time looking at my parent's stuff...they have such interesting stuff. I wish that I had the time/energy to reorganize their bookstore and really help them sell books this summer. They just keep accumulating books and there's just piles and piles in the house in addition to the overstuffed bookstore.
I started an herb garden but so far it's nothing to write home about. Just chocolate mint and some lavendar. Maybe next weekend I can plant a few more things. I was thinking of taking the family to the Fairbanks Museum in St. J next weekend. I think Bea would love the exhibits.

i woke up really sick at about 4 this morning. i tried to make it to our staff meeting, cat dropped me off early and i read a little, but soon it became clear that i needed to be home in our own bathroom. they were very understanding at work, but now want me to wait a nuther week before starting, as they want me to start on wednesday at staff meeting. i'm so excited to start and bring some ideas to the table! ugh, but i'm still feeling awful.
fathers' day is coming and i hope to cook a nice meal for cat and my dad, here in our new place. my dad specified-please no 'soy product', chinese or indian food of any sort. he'd like a big bowl of macaroni and cheese with a side of bread and a glass of milk.
i tried to watch tv earlier when i woke up and everything made me sick. there was an ad for a show called HURL, where the objective is not to. then there are a lot of in-your-face hamburgers.

Cat's back home and all is right with the world, except that it's been miserably hot. We saw Kung fu panda last night and I think we enjoyed it more than Bea did. We also took a dip in the River, which was pretty low.
New job starts tomorrow- at least, I'm going into staff meeting tomorrow. I never dreamed I'd go back to newspaper. This will be different, though; no ads to put together and more responsibility for the overall design of the paper, and the opportunity to write. No noisy press chugging away.

Bea and I are pretty lonely without Cat.
I found this little book a while back at a local thrift store. It's a collection of some of Vincent Fagos's Peter Rabbit Stories. I didn't know he spent his last years in Vermont. It's signed to a little girl (I'm guessing she's the one who colored all over the first few pages) and he drew a little bunny!

The drawings are quite different than those of his Peter Rabbit predecessor, Harrison Cady. And much different than those of Cady's predecessor and Peter Rabbit's creator, Beatrix Potter.

Gee, I certainly don't write in here much; the last update was 28 weeks ago!
My amazing husband is going to Mocca this weekend and hopes to sell out the anthology he edited. Here he is at the book release party:

We just moved into a spiffy new place. It's bigger, cleaner and generally makes more sense for our family. I start my new job at a local weekly newspaper soon.

I love the work of Rutu Modan, particularly The Most Popular Girl in Warsaw (found in the archive section). Such a clear line, and perfect colors. It makes me want to draw some clothes! Maybe I will get it together enough this week to draw. Bea tries to grab the pencil, or throws a big book at me, generally.
This weekend I'm going to try to drag the family to Billings farm for the annual Apple and Pumpkin celebration. I want Bea to see the animals and I want to see how they make pumpkin ice cream. And take a horse drawn wagon ride. yeow!

bea and i have a new favorite band.
ok, edited to say that THISmight be our new theme song.
with my love for vintage children's music, my husband's interest in electronic music, and bea's fondness for animal sounds, we have to get all their albums.

our family's schedule is changing and beatrix is adjusting to her father's new job. i am, too. his music and daily presence has been a mainstay in my (and our) life for so long, but i'm glad that he found a job he's happy with. he's still doing updates to his comic at Magic Inkwell. i'm still working at the children's clothing store in norwich for now, taking bea with me. we're going to see wilco and low this weekend! her first concert.
